There are so many articles on the internet that provide a detailed guide on how to become a successful content writer and thus we are well aware about the things that one should do in order to become a successful content writer. However, a very few people as a new writer in the writing industry know about the things that they should avoid in order to get success in this field. So that’s why in this article I’m going to tell you people about the things that you should not do as a content writer.

1. Begging for work

I can understand that at times when someone is running out of money, they just freak out and consequently just start begging for work in DMs.

But you know what? It looks highly unprofessional and the client isn’t gonna hire you this way.

They’re in search of someone professional who can provide extraordinary services, not someone who is already stuck in his problems and doing it all for the sake of some bucks with zero passion for writing.

So, regardless of your financial conditions never do this and just focus on improving your skills.

Trust me the clients gonna approach you by themselves.

2. Working for no money or a small amount

Being a content writer myself I understand that as a beginner charging a small amount is okay but doing it over and over isn’t okay at all.

Because later on when you’ll get to know that your work is worth way more than what you were paid for, you’ll realize that you’ve wasted so much of your time.

3. Sticking with one skill only

If you are making this mistake, trust me you may be earning well today but won’t be earning this much tomorrow.

The reason why I’m saying this is because freelancing is one of the fastest evolving businesses.

There is great competition out there and freelancers with more skills and experience are elbowing out those who don’t have that.

For example: if you are a content writer, who only knows writing and there is this person “y” in your competition, who not only knows writing but is also able to research the product nicely, have great SEO and content marketing knowledge, and can even edit and upload the article using WordPress.

Now, who do you think gonna get the job? So, learn more to earn more.

4. Writing fluffy content.

Many newbie writers do this especially when they are being paid per word.

They usually try to increase the word count by incorporating useless idioms and not-so-relevant quotations in the article.

And if you are someone who knows SEO(even a little bit) you know that it’s all about relevancy and writing fluffy content will affect this greatly. Hence the article isn’t gonna rank at all and as soon as your client detect this you’ll lose your job.

5. Overcommitting

Always deliver more than promised. It’s a basic business technique that can help you build a great professional relationship with your client. Not only this but will also increase client retention which is very important in freelancing business.
